Buena Vista
Snowy Peaks - This park is just north of Buena Vista. The sites vary in size from somewhat close together in standard pull thru's to more spacious with nice yards for deluxe. Although we've been in nicer parks, we would have no problem spending a summer here. The internet worked well, they have some activities in the club house and they have a laundry. The view of the mountains is very nice.
Pueblo
Haggard's RV Park - This park is out in what feels like desert at the base of the mountains just west of Pueblo. Although it’s not fancy, they do have a pool and laundry and easy pull thru sites. The sunset was worth the stay. It’s close to Pueblo West so lots of shopping and other activities to choose from. A great stopping point before heading into the mountains.
INDIANA
Chatham
Double J Campground – This is a very pretty
campground in Chatham, IN just south of Springfield. All sites are full hookup and many are very
long pull thru spots. They have a pool,
a small miniature golf, play areas with playground equipment, a large pavilion,
camp store and lots of places to walk.
The sites all have a picnic table and fire ring.
Nashville
Brown County State Park, Nashville, TN – This is an
incredibly beautiful park with 16,000 acres and two lakes. There is an area of campsites that can handle
big rigs and has 50 amp electrical service.
However, there are no sewer or water hookups. There is a large dump station that is easily
accessible as are two water fill areas.
Also, the sites may no be level front to back. The sites all have fire rings and picnic
tables. Don’t let these issues deter you
from spending time here. The scenery is
incredible. They have a lodge with a
restaurant and free wi-fi, cabins of all sizes, an olympic size pool, a nature
center, camp store, and lots and lots of hiking and biking trails. We highly recommend a stay in this park. The quaint town of Nashville is just down the
road and full of fun shops and places to eat.
We enjoyed just walking around the town with our dogs.
IOWA
Lansing
Red Barn Resort – This campground is really pretty
and peaceful. There are a large number
of permanent RVs for weekenders in the park but still several spots for
vacationers. The pads are grass which
was interesting yet the vehicles don’t seem to do any damage to it. We had full hookups for $32/night with picnic
tables and fire rings. There aren’t a
lot of amenities but there are restrooms with showers and a laundry. The showers cost money – odd. The owners and staff are very nice. There is also a restaurant and bar on
property with good food. They have
indoor and outdoor seating and you can play pool.
KANSAS
Dodge City
Gunsmoke RV Park - This is a nice park on the western edge of the city. It is easy access with pull thru sites that can handle big rigs. They have a pool and laundry and we would definitely stay again.
KENTUCKY
Dry Ridge
I-75 Camper Village – 940 Curry Lane, Dry Ridge, KY - We had a hard time finding a
campground for us to park in while visiting the Ark Encounter and the Creation
Museum and finally found a spot here. Initially,
I was a bit unsure about the park but after spending several days here I definitely
can recommend it. The road down to it is
extremely narrow and not sure what would happen if we met another RV on
it. But if those leaving are checked out
before 11:30 am they shouldn’t encounter other inbound RVs and those coming
after 11:30 am shouldn’t encounter any outbound RVs. There are several long-term contract workers
in the park but they still have some pull-thru spots for short-term
campers. The spot we were in was fine
and had full hookups with a fire ring and picnic table. They offered free wi-fi but we weren’t able
to get onto it unless we sat by the office.
They have clean restrooms with showers and a laundry. There are several plastic picnic tables with
umbrellas by the park office which makes it easy to visit with folks and use
your computers. On our last night in the
park, they had a July 4th feed, with games, music and fireworks over
the lake. The owners puts on a party
like this for Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day and supplies
everything. It was a very peaceful and
pleasant stay here.
MISSOURI
Branson
Branson KOA Holiday is tucked away on the outskirts of Branson and is very nice. It's close to Table Rock Lake as well. It is hilly in the park but the sites are fairly level. The park is well taken care of with pretty landscaping and several amenities. The access was easy and it is big rig friendly.
Canton
City of Canton Mississippi River Park - This is located right at the water’s edge of the Mississippi River and is immediately outside Lock and Dam 20. There are 23 cement pads that can handle most any size of rig with full hookups and 50 amp service. It’s a great place for a stop over and is only $20/night. You can also make reservations by calling the City of Canton at 573-288-4413. We enjoyed watching the towboats with their barges going through the lock and just enjoying the peace along the river. There are no other amenities other than a small play area for kids but it’s truly a gem for a short stay and the price is right. The only down side is there is railroad track immediately behind the park and although I never heard any river traffic while sleeping, I did hear the trains but fell right back asleep as they didn’t blow their horns.
MONTANA
Billings
Billings Village RV Park is easy to get to and can handle large rigs. All the spaces are back-in. They have some amenities but nothing fancy. A great place for a few overnights when passing through town.
Great Falls
Dick's RV Park was great. We didn't have a reservation but had a mechanical break down and with a 2-hour notice they were able to accommodate us on a holiday weekend. Knowing our leveling jacks had failed, they worked to find us the most level pad without our asking for this! They encouraged us to book for a few nights, telling us they would refund our money should we pull out earlier. Nothing fancy in this park but they are good people and very helpful. Easy access and can handle big rigs.
St. Mary
St. Mary/Glacier KOA - This park is great. It's a large park with great views and lots of amenities. As is everything on the east side of Glacier, it's a bit pricey. The staff are extremely friendly and go out of their way to accommodate the guests. They have a pool, hot tub, breakfast, BBQ dinner, a large store with way more things than I've ever seen in a camp store plus many other things. I highly recommend this place.
NEBRASKA
Ogallala
Sleepy Sunflower RV Park is right next to I-80 and quite small. It was very clean with some amenities and handled our large rig. Definitely a place for stop overs. There were storms coming in the evening we were there and we were informed that we needed to take shelter in the restrooms, if needed. I found that information comforting.
NEW MEXICO
Red River
Roadrunner RV Park - Aesthetically, this is the nicest RV park in Red River. The setting couldn’t be prettier tucked in the mountains with the Red River running through the park. It’s a large park but feels small because of it’s layout. They even have an adults-only RV area. Most of the large sites are back in but we had no problem backing into our site. We would definitely return to this park. Red River offers lots of activities including jeep trails which we enjoyed. It's also close to Taos, Angel Fire and other fun areas to check out.
OKLAHOMA
Newcastle
A-AAA RV Park located in Newcastle, OK. We lived in this park for five years and absolutely loved it. It is not designed for vacationers but rather monthly residents. Our neighbors ranged from older retirees to contract workers to folks building homes and so on. This park has a laundry and storm shelter but no restrooms or pool. The lots are large with lots of trees that are beautiful in the Fall. It is completely fenced with a security gate at the front. You can also receive your mail there. It is the prettiest park in the entire OKC metro area and a great price. The owner enforces the rules, which we really appreciated, so if you aren't sure about something, ask first and read the rules when you check in!
TEXAS
Giddings
South Forty RV Park – This park is located 5 miles south of Giddings, TX on Hwy 77. This is a small park but in a very pretty setting with lots of trees. The park is well kept, has a pool and activities building and is pet friendly. There are a few full-time residents and some of their lots are a bit trashed out but overall the park is very nice and clean. A perfect spot for a few nights.

Rockport
Wilderness Oaks RV Park in Rockport, TX. This is where we are spending our first winter (December 2016 - March 2017). The park does have some full-time residents but the majority in the winter are Winter Texans. The park manager and staff also live in the park and they also use Workkampers. Upon our arrival we were greeted very warmly by both the office staff as well as the guys that helped us to park. Getting us backed into our site was amazing. The space was limited for maneuvering but these guys knew what they were doing and had us into our slot in minutes. The Winter Texans in the park have an activities committee as well as a treasurer, secretary, etc. They meet weekly to plan all the activities - and there are a bunch. All kinds of games, sewing, potlucks, luncheons out, Bible study, exercise in and out of the pool, cookouts, ice cream socials, holiday meals... There is also a workout room with a variety of equipment, a heated salt water outdoor pool, a hot tub, a pool/game room, a kitchen anybody is welcome to use and they are very pet friendly. There is no reason for anybody to get bored! The residents are very friendly and helpful. You can rent a site monthly for well under $400 plus electricity, which is a great buy for all that is offered.
WYOMING
Casper
Fort Caspar Campground is in an out of the way spot in Casper but near shopping and restaurants. The layout is easy to maneuver in a large rig. The sites are all gravel and very level. The outer sites seem to be occupied by permanent or long-term residents. The park did offer some amenities but what slapped us in the face was that they do not enforce any rules. We travel with two small dogs so we are keenly aware of pet rules. We found dogs unattended outside on leashes or in dog pens. In fact, one dog broke loose from its tie out and came after our dogs. When we asked about this we were informed that she didn't know what she could do about the unattended dogs. Several other 'do not do' items on their rules were also violated by the permanent residents. However, it is a decent park and good for a few overnights.
